Initial Insight on Ranchers First Initiative
Following rancher backlash over President Trump’s plans to import 300,000 metric tons of ground been in an effort to bring down beef prices for consumers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has attempted to again fall into ranchers’ good graces through an initiative package aimed at helping rebuild the national cowherd size as well as strengthen domestic beef processing in support of cattle ranchers across the country. The Ranchers First Initiative was announced by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Aug. 31, describing it as a widespread effort to place U.S. beef producers at the helm of the nation’s food supply.
